What are the benefits of completing a virtual internship? Virtual interns enjoy flexibility in fitting the internship experience into their busy personal and professional lives, since work can often be completed evenings and on weekends. They have the opportunity to learn from experts in their field regardless of their geographic location. They strengthen their information and computer skills as they employ technology to communicate with their site supervisor and conduct their work.
Questions? Please contact the virtual internship pilot project coordinators: Dr. Nitin Aggarwal, College of Business, or Dr. Patricia C. Frannks, School of Library and Information Science.

How do I apply for a virtual internship? Each job listing provides important information about the application process, including contact information. SLIS students will be assigned a faculty supervisor upon registration. College of Business Students should search the virtualinterns.net database for faculty willing to work with virtual interns by selecting Faculty on main page. Once a faculty member you would like to work with has been identified, send them an email to discuss the virtual internship opportunity.
Could you receive both credit and pay for a virtual internship? Yes, it is possible. SLIS approved Internships are always taken for credit. A student can earn 1 unit of credit for each 45 hours worked; most are 3 unit internships requiring 135 hours of work.  However, Virtual internships can be paid or unpaid depending on the employer. The internship listing in the virtualinerns.net database will specify whether the position is paid or unpaid.
